You Found Me!
Hi! I’m Cat, a writer and overwhelmed human living on Oʻahu in Hawaiʻi. I’ve spent most of my writing career — as a newspaper reporter, magazine editor and freelance writer — creating content about food. Restaurant reviews, chef profiles, recipes — you name it, I’ve covered it. And probably eaten it, too.
The Details
I’ll be sending out a free weekly newsletter about my favorite subject: food. Much of my content will be centered around Hawaiʻi. But lucky for you, I love to travel — I’ve been a travel writer and editor for over a decade — so I plan to share my culinary discoveries here, too.
So what will I be writing about? Recent restaurant visits. My food recommendations. Favorite recipes. Stories about food. Maybe even some gardening tips. Who knows!
About Me
Born and raised on Oʻahu, I’ve been writing professionally for more than two decades — and eating for even longer. I worked as a newspaper reporter in Hawai‘i for 10 years and have been freelancing — in between teaching journalism, hitting the surf and eating everything in sight — for national and local print and online publications since the late ‘90s. (Don’t do the math.)
I started blogging about 15 years ago. Social media came later. And now I’m on Substack. The laundry will never get done.
I earned her master’s degree in journalism from the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University in 1999, focusing on magazine writing and publishing. My bachelor’s degree is in English from the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa, proving that English majors can get jobs!
I also penned a children’s book — my first! — called Kai Goes to the Farmers Market in Hawaiʻi (Beachhouse Publishing, 2019).
I live in Honolulu with my aquaculture husband, my rambunctious son, Landon, a dog named Sunny, a cat named Eevee, three hens and an extensive collection of surfboards.
